Bilateral Relations Department The main focus of the department is to formulate a policy framework for intensifying relations with countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, North, Central and South America and Europe; to establish the priorities for bilateral initiatives; to encourage the establishment and retention of diplomatic missions in Jamaica. Jamaica’s bilateral relations feature prominently in the development and implementation of the country’s foreign policy strategy. It is through the cultivation and astute management of these relations that Jamaica is able to secure critical cooperation and assistance for its national development priorities, and garner support for positions adopted on matters of international significance. These relations are mutually beneficial and often reflect shared values and common approaches to developmental priorities and multilateral principles. Benefits to Jamaica, a wide range of critical developmental needs in areas such as education, infrastructural development, health, security, agriculture, environment as well as scientific and technical spheres.
