Jamaica and the HCP
Jamaica was the first country to put forward project proposals emanating from the national strategy document and considered a pace for other beneficiaries.

A number of entities in Jamaica, including the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, have benefited and are benefiting from the Hemispheric Cooperation Programme through an FTAA/IDB/CANADA Fund Project.
The general objective of the Programme is to disseminate information and build knowledge of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) at every level of the Jamaican society.

The specific objectives of the Programme are:
  1. to create an awareness of the FTAA process and its implications for Jamaica among a variety of stakeholders;
  2. to sensitize audiences to the new opportunities created by the FTAA and the necessary responses for taking full advantage of these;
  3. to equip the target audiences with relevant information on Jamaica’s position on various FTAA negotiating issues;
  4. to improve the ability of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade to coordinate with other Ministries and the Jamaican private sector and to gather specialized trade information.
  5. to facilitate communication between Jamaican public sector entities and the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM)
